A polycule-discussion video from the New York Times Magazine

Well lookit this. The New York Times Magazine has posted a video as a followup to its May 14th cover story Is an Open Marriage a Happier Marriage? and to that story's followup collection of readers' experiences, ‘We Choose Each Other Over and Over Because We Want to’. I take this as a sign that the topic brings clicks.

The video begins with yet another tale of a couple going poly because one of them issued an I'm-having-an-affair ultimatum. However, by the time the 8-minute discussion winds up, it's clear that all five people are now happy with the polycule they've formed and the larger network they are embedded in.

But a subtle air of self-absorption grates on me a bit. Is this a normal New York way of talking, or how the video was edited, or am I just seeing things?

If the video embed doesn't work, here's the link: Married, Dating Other People and Happy. "Exploring trust, jealousy and desire with nonmonogamous couples." (June 16, 2017).
